Recent permits show the kind of jobs it takes: a run of Cat6 cables for new wireless access points in Burbank, and fiber and copper cabling for network connectivity in Spokane Valley. The state insures the business under telephone prewiring, a truer description than the general electrical label. Since 2013 it has filed prevailing-wage work for Central Valley School District, Spokane Public Library, Spokane Housing Authority, and districts in Grand Coulee Dam, Wellpinit, Republic and Warden, mostly as a subcontractor. The state lists Jeffrey Fix as a principal since 2004 and Ruthanne Fix since 2007. This is a small crew, one to three people, with the owner doing the work, and it gets jobs through referrals and repeat customers. That suits a new office network, prewiring for a commercial build-out, or a school or public building that needs prevailing-wage paperwork handled. The work is limited energy and telecom, so someone who needs a panel upgrade, new circuits or a whole-house rewire should look to a full-service electrician for that part of the job. Spokane's housing stock shapes cabling work. Older homes on the South Hill and in neighborhoods like Browne's Addition often have plaster walls, balloon framing and few clear paths between floors, so running Cat6 or fiber takes more planning about where lines can go without opening walls. Newer builds in Spokane Valley and Liberty Lake are easier to wire, especially before drywall goes up. In either case, ask where the network equipment will sit and how many drops each room needs before work starts.
