Recent permits show the range. In Spokane: wiring a new house, finishing a basement bedroom, and remodeling most of a house a couple of rooms at a time. In Liberty Lake: a kitchen remodel and a basement subpanel for a future sauna, bathroom and hot tub. In Spokane Valley and Veradale: bath and bedroom remodels, added heaters, wafer lights and ceiling fans, plus outlets and lights for a gazebo. There's an automatic-transfer generator in Wellpinit and a 400-amp service with a ditch cover in Greenacres. Earlier, in 2011 and 2012, Kilmer Electric took on work for the City of Spokane as prime contractor. The state lists Patrick Kilmer and Angela Kilmer as principals. Kilmer Electric is a small outfit, with the owner on the tools and a crew of one to three. That suits panel replacements, service upgrades, generator hookups, added circuits and remodels done in stages, where the same electrician comes back for each phase. The work is standard residential wiring and service equipment. Large commercial or industrial projects, or installs that call for manufacturer certification such as solar or integrated smart-home systems, are a better fit for a different kind of shop. Spokane's housing runs from early-1900s homes on the South Hill and in the older north-side neighborhoods to postwar ranches in the Valley and newer builds out toward Liberty Lake. Older houses can still have undersized services, ungrounded circuits or wiring that's been patched over the decades, so a kitchen or bath remodel often turns into a panel or service conversation. Newer homes usually have capacity to spare, but basement finishes, hot tubs and shop subpanels can use it up. Before planning a remodel, ask the electrician to look at the panel and service size first.
