Alderwood Landscaping Inc.

Alderwood is a sizable outfit, with the state placing its workforce in the 51 to 75 band. Its workers' comp classes cover landscape construction alongside project managers, estimators, drafting staff and outside sales, which fits a business that runs design and building in-house rather than just sending out a mow crew. The company says it was founded in 1981, and an earlier state license under the Alderwood Landscaping name dates to 1983. The state lists Mike Semarad as a principal since 2001. Alderwood describes itself as family-owned. The fit is a full backyard project: a design phase, then hardscape, plantings and features built to that plan. Patio and hardscape builds, water features and complete yard overhauls are the kind of work this shop is set up for, along with fencing out deer and elk. A homeowner after a quick cleanup or routine upkeep is probably better matched with a smaller maintenance crew, and large public projects sit outside the residential work Alderwood is known for. Plantings and paving rarely need a permit, but a lot of what goes into a designed backyard does. In Spokane and the surrounding county, retaining walls over a modest height, pools and spas, saunas and other outdoor structures, gas lines for fire features, and electrical for lighting or pumps generally call for permits and inspections. Pools also bring fencing and barrier rules. Expect the contractor to pull those permits, since the inspection protects you when the property sells and keeps the liability with the builder.
