Sturm Heating & A/C.

The state insures Sturm under workers' comp classes for HVAC installation, service and repair, along with electrical wiring in buildings, vacuum truck service and sheet metal goods. That last class lines up with the in-house sheet metal fabrication the company lists. The crew size band sits between 51 and 75 workers, and the business is part of Avista's contractor network. Public-works filings run from 2019 to 2026, mostly as a subcontractor, for agencies including Spokane County Fire District 8, the Spokane Housing Authority, Spokane Transit Authority, the cities of Spokane and Spokane Valley, and Washington's Department of Fish and Wildlife. The state lists Darrin Erdahl, Eric Beardemphl and Jons Brotnov as principals since 2021. This is a large, steady-volume mechanical shop. It fits a furnace that needs attention before the first cold snap, a central air installation or full system replacement, or a water heater swap folded into a broader mechanical upgrade. The electrical license supports the HVAC side of the work. A homeowner who mainly wants new circuits or exterior floodlights may do better with a dedicated electrician. Repair versus replace comes up every fall in Spokane, where a furnace has to carry a house through long stretches below freezing and an AC unit now works hard through hotter Julys. A repair usually makes sense when the equipment is fairly young and the fault is a single part. Replacement starts to look better when breakdowns repeat, the system is near the end of its expected life, or you're already thinking about a heat pump or adding cooling. Older homes on the South Hill or in the Valley often have ductwork that was sized for an older furnace. Ask whoever quotes the job to look at the ducts and the house as a whole, not just the box in the basement.
