Recent permits show the spread of the work: residential additions and alterations in Spokane, remodel and egress permits in Spokane Valley, accessory structures in Mead and Liberty Lake, a new dwelling, plumbing work in Millwood, and commercial tenant improvements in the Valley. That means much of the work stays in-house. Public-works filings since 2019 include jobs for the Mead, Freeman and Creston school districts and the state Department of Commerce, mostly as a subcontractor. The state lists Titus Hug and Elizabeth Hug as principals since 2017. Hug Construction fits a project with many moving parts: a gutted kitchen and bath, a multi-room addition, a detached ADU, or a ground-up house that needs concrete, framing and finish work handled by one firm. The company advertises fixed-price bids and set schedules, says it is family-owned, and tracks jobs in Buildertrend with a project manager on each one. A homeowner who needs only an electrician or a plumber for a single repair is better served by a trade-only shop, since this firm is a general contractor that manages full projects. Spokane's housing runs from early-1900s homes on the South Hill and in the older north side neighborhoods to postwar ranches and newer Valley and Liberty Lake subdivisions, and each changes what a remodel uncovers. Older houses often hide knob-and-tube wiring, plaster walls, undersized framing and basements that need egress windows before they can become living space. Newer homes tend to have tighter framing and standard layouts, so additions and ADUs come down to tying into existing systems and the lot.
